Thank You to Our Learners
Over the past months, Dutch Online has quietly grown into something bigger than we initially imagined. We are grateful to every learner who chose to study Dutch with us.
We have now passed 1,900 enrollments, with learners using Dutch Online from all over the world. People preparing to move to the Netherlands, people already living here, and people learning Dutch alongside work, family and daily life.
That global reach confirms something important to us. Learning Dutch is not just about language. It is about feeling more confident, more included and more at home. This update is a moment to pause, say thank you, and share where we are heading next.

Clearer Vocabulary and Pronunciation
We improved how vocabulary works across Dutch Online. Words are now presented more consistently, helping learners recognise and reuse them more easily in different lessons.
Each word now includes two audio versions. A normal pronunciation and a slower version that makes it easier to hear individual sounds. This helps learners train their ear first, which supports better pronunciation and listening confidence.
AI Powered Pronunciation Trainer Now Live
Our AI powered pronunciation trainer is now live throughout A1 and A2.
Learners first hear an example sentence spoken clearly. After that, they record themselves saying the same sentence. The AI then checks pronunciation word by word, highlighting where sounds match and where they can be improved.
You can listen back to your own recording and directly compare it with the original audio of the sentence. This makes it easier to hear differences and adjust your pronunciation step by step.
The goal is not perfection, but awareness. By seeing and hearing feedback immediately, learners build confidence and accuracy in a safe, repeatable way.

Revamped Sentence Structure Practice
We fully redesigned the sentence structure exercises after learner feedback showed that dragging words did not work well for everyone.
The new interface lets learners type words directly to build a sentence instead of dragging them into place. This feels more natural, works better on all devices and keeps focus on thinking in Dutch rather than on the interaction itself.
The updated sentence structure practice is now fully rolled out across the platform and supports clearer, faster and more comfortable sentence building.

Speaking Classes Now Weekly
Our speaking classes are now weekly.
We are currently thinking about a clearer and easier structure for signing up. Recently, we sent out a short availability survey and received a large number of responses. Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill it in. We are using these answers to plan the speaking classes in a way that works better for more learners.
For now, we continue with A1 speaking classes. In the near future, we will expand to A2 and B1 speaking classes, but we want to make sure the foundation is solid first.
All speaking classes remain included in Full Access. This gives you access to up to three speaking classes per week for 25 euro per month, alongside all courses and practice features.
We will keep learners updated as soon as the new structure for signing up is ready.

A Heads Up Before What’s Next
We are currently working on larger platform changes behind the scenes. Building new features and improving existing ones takes time, and sometimes that means small issues may appear along the way.
We want to apologise in advance if anything does not work as expected. We are doing our best to make every transition as smooth as possible, but we also believe in being open when things are still evolving.
If something is not working for you, please reach out. You can contact us via the WhatsApp support line for learners or by email. We read every message and use your feedback to improve the platform.
Thank you for your patience, your trust and for learning Dutch with us.

Simplified Course Structure
As part of upcoming performance optimisations, we are working on simplifying the course structure across the platform.
A1 and A2 will no longer be split into multiple course cards. Each level will be available as one clear course card, making navigation easier and progress more intuitive. You will no longer need to switch between parts. Everything for one level will live in one place.
The same change will apply to Smart Practice. Instead of separate course cards, Smart Practice will become a single course where you can choose whether you want to practise at A1 or A2 level within the same environment.
These changes are designed to make the platform cleaner, faster and easier to use, while keeping all content exactly where you expect it to be.

B1 Is Coming
We are currently working on our B1 course, and this is a major step for Dutch Online.
B1 brings a very different level of depth and scale. Where A1 and A2 focus on daily survival and routine communication, B1 is where learners start to really participate. At work. In longer conversations. In written communication. That requires much more language.
The first five B1 lessons will be released within the next two weeks. Our goal is to launch these around the end of January.
In total, B1 will consist of 100 lessons. This is intentional. According to CEFR guidelines, learners at B1 level are expected to actively use a vocabulary of around 5,000 words. At the end of our A2, learners know around 2,000 words.
To bridge that gap properly, each B1 lesson introduces around 30 new, carefully selected words. That is a lot. But it also means you are learning the words that are actually needed to function at B1 level, not filler content.
After B1, we will start working on integration exam preparation. All new courses and features will remain included for learners with Full Access.

New Exercise Types in Development
We continue to innovate and improve how practice works inside Dutch Online.
We are currently developing a new type of verb exercise. This will launch first in B1 and later also be rolled out to A1 and A2. At A2 level especially, the number of verbs and verb forms can start to feel repetitive. By introducing new exercise formats with more variation and smarter repetition, practising verbs becomes more effective and less monotonous.
In addition, we are working on a WhatsApp style chat simulator. This will allow learners to practise Dutch by chatting about specific, realistic topics. While you type, you will receive feedback on what you write and suggestions on how to improve it.
Based on learner feedback, this chat simulator will replace the current text based exercises, which many learners experienced as less engaging. The listening and reading exercises will remain, with the same depth and structure you are used to.
Our goal is to keep practice realistic, varied and closely connected to how Dutch is actually used in daily life.

Smarter Learning, Built Around You
We are working on a learning engine that adapts to how you learn. It will remember which words, structures or exercises you find difficult and automatically offer extra repetition where you need it most.
This means practice becomes more personal over time. Instead of repeating everything equally, the platform will focus more on your weak points and less on what you already know well.
In addition, we are developing a short intake assessment. This will help new learners quickly see where they should start, so you do not have to guess whether A1 or A2 fits you best.
Both features are designed to reduce frustration and make learning more efficient from day one.
